Frequently Asked Questions

Q. How do you help people?

A. We encourage people to help themselves. We would ask you to think about these three statements:

  • Love what you keep, keep what you love.
  • Use it or lose it.
  • When in doubt, throw it out.

Together, we figure out exactly what you’d like to see accomplished and modified. Then we implement a plan and a system – and we work as a team. Metropolitan Organizing® will make a list of recommended organizational tools and where to buy them, or we can shop for you.

You'll be pleasantly surprised how invigorating and restorative the process can be. And the end results are even better – the satisfaction of completion, a sense of fulfillment, and the pleasure of peaceful surroundings.

Q. How long do most projects take?

A. The length of time depends on you, your situation, and your expectations. We usually work in three- or four-hour blocks of time; we've found that after a few hours, everyone's bravery, diligence, and idealism begins to decline. Psychologically and physically, it's easier to break a large job into smaller jobs, and many jobs can be done in a half-day.

We work quickly and waste no time. We're aware that clients love to see us but they're even happier when the job is completed!

Q. What's the process like? What can I expect?

A. First, we complete a lengthy questionnaire, perform an initial assessment, and talk with you about your priorities and personality. Some clients need a gentle nudge, others need a coach, some need a cheerleader. We figure out what approach works best for you and your situation.

Also at our first meeting, we work together for a few hours. Then, we select convenient dates to meet again. We will continue to book appointments and work together until the task is completed.

Q. What's your "best kept secret" for improving my home and office?

A. We'd have to say light and lighting. Most people don't consider lighting as a crucial element of their home or office. Lighting can create a relaxing mood in one room, elegant ambiance in another, even a sense of utility in a workspace.

We find that small changes in basic lighting can improve the way you and others experience your home and office. For example, most bathroom vanities are lit from above; this harsh lighting creates shadows your face and is ill-suited for applying makeup. In an office environment, most desk lamps create computer screen glare, which is irritating to the eyes. The changes we recommend are generally subtle and inexpensive.

Q. Do you take credit cards?

A. Metropolitan Organizing gladly takes most forms of payment, including MasterCard, Visa, and Discover. Payment is expected at the time of service, unless otherwise arranged.
